Abstract

The rapid development of financial technology has transformed the way university students conduct financial transactions and consume goods and services. E-wallets provide convenience, speed, accessibility, and promotional incentives that may encourage students to make purchases more frequently, while financial literacy is expected to help individuals manage financial resources and control excessive consumption. This study aims to examine the influence of e-wallet usage and financial literacy on the consumptive behavior of students at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Halu Oleo, Kendari. This research employed a quantitative approach using an explanatory survey design. The sample consisted of 120 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination. The illustrative regression results indicate that e-wallet usage has a positive and significant effect on students' consumptive behavior, while financial literacy has a negative and significant effect. Simultaneously, e-wallet usage and financial literacy significantly influence consumptive behavior. E-wallet usage represents the stronger predictor of consumptive behavior in the proposed model. The findings indicate that the convenience and promotional characteristics of digital payments may encourage consumption, whereas stronger financial literacy may help students control unnecessary expenditure. The study recommends strengthening financial literacy education and encouraging responsible use of digital payment technologies among university students.
